Successful Audit

Stauff attains the status of "Known Consignor" from the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt LBA)

On 25 March 2013, new European Union guidelines (Regulation EC 300/2008 and Regulation EU 185/2010) will go into effect, bringing fundamental changes in terms of air freight services. Background for the actions: secure supply chains should prevent potential threats in air space and rule out the transport of unsafe and dangerous goods.

In Germany, the Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt LBA) is implementing these decrees in the form of certification as an "Known Consignor".

Any company wishing to dispatch its freight by air from this date on that does not have the relevant certification has to expect additional security checks at airports. This may lead to delays in processing air cargo shipments, which are often time-critical, as well as to considerable additional costs.

In March 2012 STAUFF became one of the first companies in Germany to be certified by the German Federal Aviation Office. The company now holds the coveted status of "Known Consignor".

What this means in concrete terms: according to the legal specifications, STAUFF has developed a security concept and implemented it into procedures at the logistics centre in Neuenrade-Kuentrop, which categorically rules out any unauthorised access to shipments during the preparation phase.

The appointment and training of responsible security personnel and all other persons with access to air cargo goes hand in hand with structural changes. These changes serve to secure the warehouse, packaging and production areas for air cargo and were taken into account in the course of the extension to the logistics centre completed in January 2012. Only in this way compliance with the security requirements can be ensured across the entire transport chain.

Logistics Manager Ludger Fuderholz emphasises the relevance of the certification for the company: "Considering the current amount of air cargo and with an export share of about 60 percent, it was clear that we had to try to get certified early on. That way, in future we can guarantee delivery of goods to our customers all over the world in a manner that is as cost-effective and on-time as possible."

Ralf Oehler, Manager of Dispatch and Customs at STAUFF Germany, adds: "By the spring of 2013, thousands of other companies will want to be audited by the federal agency. Because bottlenecks are anticipated, we're glad that we have already successfully wrapped up the process."
